Our classrooms
At The Giving Tree Montessori School in Greensboro, we create a nurturing environment where curiosity is supported, confidence grows, and a love of learning takes root. This approach allows each child to develop naturally and at their own pace.
Our classrooms sit beneath the building's original heavy timber beams and posts — an open, light-filled space where low shelves put every material within a child's reach.
Programs
With programs that honor the way young children naturally grow, learn, and develop.
Ages 2–3
First independence. Children learn to carry, pour, fasten, wipe, and put things back where they belong — the practical work that makes a two-year-old feel capable.
Ages 3–6
The long work cycle begins. Children move through practical life, sensorial materials, language, mathematics, and the fifth album — science, geography, cultural, art, and music and movement — choosing work and returning to it until it's genuinely theirs.
The Montessori approach
Montessori is specific, not abstract. Each material teaches one thing, and the child repeats it until it clicks.
Pouring, arranging, fastening, sweeping, caring for the classroom. This work builds coordination, concentration, and responsibility — and children take it seriously.
A child who chooses their own work will stay with it far longer than a child who is assigned it. Long uninterrupted blocks protect that focus.
Low shelves, child-sized tools, and materials a child can reach and return without help. Children do things for themselves because the room is built for it.
A child moves to the next material when they're ready for it, not when the calendar says so. Teachers track each child's progress individually.
Children learn to wait for a material another child is using, to ask before joining, and to help someone younger. The social work is part of the curriculum.
Children hold quantity before they write numerals and trace letter shapes before they spell. The concrete comes first, so the abstract has something to stand on.
One day
The most common question on a tour is simply what the day looks like. Here it is.
A quiet arrival for families who start work early. Breakfast from home, books, and calm activity until the classrooms open.
Children arrive, greet their teacher, put away their things, and choose their first work. Independence starts at the door.
The heart of a Montessori morning. Children choose materials, work alone or in small groups, and repeat what interests them. Teachers observe, give individual lessons, and stay out of the way of a child who is concentrating.
A natural stopping point for the youngest children, after lunch and before the afternoon.
Toddler half dayTime outside on the campus grounds, rest for children who need it, and a second shorter work period.
Pickup for Toddler and Primary full-day children.
For families who need a longer day, after-care runs until six — snack, outdoor time, and quiet activity.
Schedules & care
We offer flexible enrollment options tailored to busy families' needs. Whether you require a full day, a half day, or before- and after-school care, our programs are designed to support your child's educational journey and your family's schedule.
The school day runs 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Toddler families may choose a half day ending at 12:30 p.m. Before- and after-school care extends the day from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Ms. Hanan brings over 25 years of experience in early childhood education and a rich multicultural perspective to her work with children and families.
Lead Toddler Teacher
Mrs. Magnusson is an experienced educator with 9 years of teaching in both Montessori School and public-school settings.
Lead Primary Teacher
Ms. Myers is an experienced educator with a strong background in general and special education, complemented by her Montessori training and certification.
Office Administrator
Georgia Marshall joins The Giving Tree Montessori School with over forty years of experience in education, specializing in early childhood education.
Summer
Our facilities are open year-round, including our Summer Camp program.
Between our spring and fall classes we offer weekly enrollment for flexible attendance, accommodating both on and off schedules. Extended before- and after-school care and the optional daily lunch program continue through the summer.
Summer Camp 2026 runs June 15 through August 14 — nine themed weeks of in-house field trips covering gardening, cooking, sports, robotics and more, in two age groups: ages 2–4 and ages 5–7.

Snacks and milk are included in tuition. Families may pack lunch from home or join the optional lunch program. No nuts of any kind, including peanut butter, may be packed, because of allergies in our classrooms. Questions about payment policies are best answered directly — please call or ask us.
How enrollment works
We don't ask families to apply to a school they haven't stood inside. The tour comes first.
Pick a time that works. Tours run about 30 minutes and are booked online.
Someone from the school follows up personally, usually the same day, to confirm details and answer questions before you arrive.

Questions parents ask
Our Toddler program is for children ages 2 to 3, and our Primary program is for ages 3 to 6.
The school day runs 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Toddler families may choose a half day ending at 12:30 p.m. Before- and after-school care extends the day from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for both programs.
The first day of school is August 24, 2026, and the year runs through June 10, 2027. Curriculum night is September 16. Winter break is December 21 to January 4, and spring break is March 22 to 26.

Yes, for Toddler families — 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., five days a week. The Primary program is full day.
You'll visit during a working morning so you can see the classrooms in use rather than empty. Expect about 30 minutes, a walk through both program spaces, time with a teacher, and room for your questions.

No. Most children who join us are new to Montessori. Children are shown each material individually when they're ready for it, so a child who starts later isn't behind — they're simply at their own place in the sequence.
We use a private family communication system for daily updates and school messages, and we hold parent-teacher conferences during the year. We'll set you up when you enroll.
